JOHN KERRY ENDORSES SETTI WARREN FOR MAYOR OF NEWTON

BOSTON – Senator John Kerry announced today that he is endorsing Setti Warren for Mayor of Newton. Prior to running for elected office, Mr. Warren served as Senator Kerry’s National Trip Advisor during the 2004 Presidential campaign and as his Deputy State Director and Press Secretary. In that capacity, Mr. Warren was the Senator’s point person for small business and economic development, helping to bring significant federal assistance to communities across the Commonwealth.

In the nearly six years we spent together, I saw directly Setti Warren’s leadership skill, his ability to work with diverse groups to bring about important improvements in real peoples’ lives and his integrity and commitment to public service. He understands the tough issues facing Newton and our state today,” said Senator Kerry. “Setti Warren will lead the charge to get Newton’s financial house in order, strengthen the city’s school system to prepare our children for the new economy, address the city’s crumbling infrastructure, change the tone of the city’s public discourse, and work to ensure a better quality of life for the constituents of the Newton. Newton needs experience, his commitment and his progressive leadership.”

Warren is a native of Newton who’s also worked in the offices of the Attorney General; at the Department of the Treasury; the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs; the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the Small Business Administration; and has served on the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs under President Bill Clinton.

He recently returned from a yearlong deployment to Iraq where he served as a Navy Intelligence Specialist in the Navy Reserve.

Setti currently lives in Newton with his wife Tassy and his daughter Abigail.
